Demolition Update

Sorry that it's taken so long for me to finish the story of the root cellar. Life has been VERY crazy the past two weeks. I'll explain more of that in my next post. First, here are the rest of the pictures from the root cellar demolition.

After 15 hours of jackhammering, Marcus and Dad had created a circle around the roof of the structure. The next step was for Dad to cut through the steel that was used to reinforce the roof. Then, we rented another backhoe and Dad knocked the remaining parts of it in. After the entire structure was knocked in, we used the mounds of dirt around it to bury all the cement right where it was.
Here is a clip from Dad's final demolition.

After Dad finished, I spent about three hours in the back yard smoothing out the dirt and getting it ready for grass. Our plan is to put a cement patio in, but we have to let the ground settle for about a year, so in the meantime we are just going to plant some grass over the spot. That probably won't happen until summer, but it is so nice just having the ugly thing gone for now.
